Shaun Simpson of Wilvo Yamaha had one top three finish at the Dutch Masters of Motocross opener at Oss. With a third and fifth in the heats respectively he came very close to an overall podium, but just stranded on fourth position. Teammate Arnaud Tonus finished fourth in the first heat, but was forced to retire from the second race.
On the sun-drenched track of De Witte Ruyshevel at Oss the large crowd was treated to exciting racing. The day started well for the Wilvo Yamaha riders who qualified fifth and sixth.
In the first heat, both riders battled for a podium finish. The battle was fierce with several position changes. In the end it was Shaun Simpson who claimed third with Arnaud Tonus in fourth.
In the second heat, Shaun Simpson again made his way to the front. After a strong race he finished fifth. Also Arnaud initially roamed inside the top five. Alas, some problems later on forced him to retire from the race.
At the end of the day, Shaun missed the overall podium by a meagre three points. He has laid a good basis for the rest of the series though. Arnaud’s dnf held him down to 13th overall.
Louis Vosters commented: “It was a great event and both riders were in the running for podium finishes. It is a pity that Arnaud had to retire. This was a good outing for us as preparation for the next GP in Mexico.”
The team will participate in the fifth round of the MXGP World Championships at Leon in Mexico next weekend.
De Dutch Masters continues in two weeks’ time in Harfsen.
