The Monster Energy Supercross series and the many Talon riders competing travelled north for the first time this past weekend. The O.Co Coliseum, deep in the heart of Oakland, hosted the fourth fixture on the 2016 calendar.
When it was all said and done, Jason Anderson was the top Talon rider in the premier 450SX class. Bad starts hindered ‘21’ again, unfortunately, but he charged forward during the twenty laps. Jason was on the cusp of the top five at the halfway point, then made some impressive passes to reach fourth by the finish. Thanks to his fourth consecutive top five finish, he has also moved back into second in the series standings. Just twenty-two points separate him from the series leader, with thirteen rounds left to run.
Justin Brayton ensured there were two Talon riders near the front, as he finished ninth after battling in the lower half of the top ten for the duration. The result ensured that his consistent start to the season has continued. Davi Millsaps, his teammate, was two spots further back in twelfth, but was robbed of a better finish after crashing with just a lap and a half to go. The fourth and final Talon rider in the main event, Christophe Pourcel, bounced back from a testing night programme to finish thirteenth in the main event.
In order to contend for a championship, you must recover well when faced with adversity. That is exactly what Zach Osborne did in the 250SX main event, as he put his head down following a crash and finished fifth. That result has catapulted him back into title contention, as he now sits just five points behind the championship leader. Kyle Cunningham also continued his run of good form, with his third consecutive top ten finish.
The Monster Energy Supercross series will now vacate the state of California to head to Arizona for the fifth round of seventeen.
