British rider Shaun Simpson has taken his Talon wheels to the top this year, with countless wins in Britain and MXGP victories in Belgium and Holland. On top of that, Shaun successfully defended his MX1 title in the Maxxis British Championship; a series he has won for two consecutive seasons with Talon.
Speaking about his successful British campaign, Simpson stated; “My goal was to win the British championship. We did that a round early, won all the overalls and only lost three motos all year! I can say that I blew the doors off of my expectations with that one. That was a definite highlight.”
Shaun was certainly a force that couldn’t be stopped at domestic level, with twenty wins from twenty-three starts, despite the best efforts of fellow Talon riders Tanel Leok (LPE Kawasaki), Gert Krestinov and Kristian Whatley (Buildbase Honda). Does he wish he could have those three motos that he lost back and run the perfect season? Of course:
“If I look at each of those motos I probably would have done things slightly differently. You think about that, as a racer, and that is what makes you better – you try to not make the same mistake again.”
The rider who usually occupies ‘#24’ finished second in the races he lost this year, but all the records book will show is that he successfully defended his title and went undefeated as far as overall wins are concerned. It’s no wonder we are proud that he put faith in Talon each week when battling the toughest of conditions around the world!
What’s next for Simpson? The Paris-Lille supercross is on the agenda; “I have a supercross track at home that I can prepare on, so we’ll go there to have some fun and put on a show for the crowd.”
